A Note from the Artist

This year's Crab Fest artwork is inspired by the sense of excitement and fun we all had as children leading up to the summer holidays.

My painting revolves around our beautiful Mandjar Bay. There is a real community connection to it, our city thrives around the bay and it really is the heart of Mandurah. Our waterways are such an asset to our city. Boating, swimming and crabbing are all part of the fun had by tourists and locals alike.

Our annual Crab Fest is a great time to visit and sample some delicious crab dishes, awesome music and entertainment, and there is a good chance the dolphins will even take the opportunity to show off for you.

The most exciting thing about producing a new artwork for the festival is that we auction it and all proceeds is donated locally. I have raised almost $18,000 over the years for charities and community groups through the Crab Fest artworks. The money raised last year went directly to Mandurah Primary School for uniforms, stationery, excursions and school activities that some families may not be able to fund themselves. It has been an awesome experience to donate locally and to see first hand how it helps local kids.

Another exciting part of Crab Fest is being able to set up a popup gallery on the foreshore. Being able to showcase my locally produced artworks and meet the festival goers is an awesome experience. Come and say hi! I would love to see you there!

The Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest is one of WA’s most loved festivals - don’t miss it!
